MSCI's broadest index of Asia-Pacific shares outside Japan (.MIAPJ0000PUS) surged 1.7% to the highest level in one week. Tokyo's Nikkei (.N225) gained 1.4% to cross the 32,000 level for the first time in two weeks. Rivian is now at an attractive entry point for investors after a recent sell-off, according to UBS. Rivian shares are down more than 22% this month after the company said it will over $1.5 billion in convertible green bonds. "While we continue to believe 2024 quarterly production/deliveries can be lumpy owing to plant re-rating, the lower stock price de-risks some of our concerns," he wrote. A new chip from Nvidia could prove the next major catalyst for the artificial intelligence darling in 2024, according to Wall Street analysts. Even so, Wall Street remains bullish on the chipmaker, with about 85% of analysts holding a buy rating on the stock, and the average price target implying 43% upside from Friday's close. While the launch of the next-generation chip known as Blackwell isn't expected until 2024, Wall Street analysts are already bracing for the debut to drive significant growth at Nvidia, which already dominates the AI market. The chip is also slated to carry a higher average selling price and better performance than Nvidia's current H100 model. Piper Sandler's Harsh Kumar called the product the "next-gen compute GPU product" for AI and high performance computing.

A shift toward higher-priced graphics processing units could further boost shares of Nvidia , according to KeyBanc. The firm raised its price target on the semiconductor maker to $750 from $670, implying a potential upside of 67% from Monday's close. Nvidia has been the poster child for this year's artificial intelligence-fueled run, rallying more than 200% during that time. Struggling First Republic Bank still has a path to survival as a smaller version of itself, according to Wells Fargo. Wells Fargo analyst Jared Shaw said in a note to clients on Sunday that First Republic now has 50-50 odds of survival or seeing a regulator-driven resolution. The trick now is that First Republic needs to get smaller, Shaw explained, while holding on to those large new deposits. Even under a restructuring scenario, First Republic would still have negative earnings per share in the fourth quarter of 2024, according to Wells Fargo's calculations. Wells Fargo has a price target of $25 per share for First Republic, representing the 50-50 odds of the bank's survival.
